Classic Car Paintings series has launched!
Photos from Hershey Antique Auto Show
I had been thinking about this series for a while. The photo references were shot over three years ago at the Hershey Antique Auto Show in 2013 (albeit one shot this year in Mt Gretna, PA). Every once in a while I’d browse and ponder what to do with these photos. It wasn’t until recently that I decided to paint them in oils on wood panels. Working a bit larger has also been a good challenge for me and yes…I’m ready to go much larger! There’s another series brewing in my head already!
12 Cars Planned for Series
The photos were cropped and modified until I could “see them in paint” as I do with most of my subject matter and a total of 12 cars are planned for this series. Shown are the first 5 cars completed…yay!!!. They have been a labor of love. Initially I intended them to be more painterly, but alas, I am a slave for details…but quite happy with the results!!!
Spectacular Chrome
Why cars?…many people ask when they walk into my studio. “I like shiny” is mostly my reply, but I have come to appreciate the classic cars much more for their superior design and spectacular chrome…much of which has been a real challenge to paint. To think that these cars were all created pre-computer is absolutely amazing to me! Painting the cars has given me an appreciation for the uniqueness of each model. These babies will never again be repeated in car design history!!!
A Girl Who Paints Cars
And yes…I feel pretty cool being a Girl Who Paints Cars!!! Many are surprised when they walk around to my easel and find out what I am painting. I like that aspect, as I never felt the need for shock value in my art…so I suppose this is my shocker!!!
