December Featured Artist at Millworks

4 Cups collage

I’m a December Featured Artist at Millworks, 340 Verbeke St, Harrisburg PA 17102.  I’m happy to be showing new work, including the Torn Paper Collage Coffee series above. My exhibit is located in the Small Gallery just behind the sales gallery and is installed and ready for viewing!!! You can visit my exhibit anytime during gallery hours Tues-Sun 11am-10pm.

I’m so excited about my new work in collage and in oils. My oil paintings are small daily still life studies focusing on single objects to capture the quietness of life. Torn Paper Collage isn’t new for me, but taking it to realism is definitely new! The collages are layered with a large variety of papers, many of them transparent, creating a rich history and depth in each piece. I’ve been enjoying working in both mediums this past year.

Third in the Burg

Third in the Burg is Dec 18, 4-10pm and I’ll be in the Small Gallery on that night. Come visit!!! Join me and my fellow featured artists.  I’d love to see you! And if you can’t make it that night, let me know if you’d like to visit another time during the month. I’ll be in the studio various hours during the month.

“Welcome Spring” by Elaine Brady Smith. 8″ x 10″ mixed media collage on canvas.

Happy first day of Spring everyone!!!

Seems like we have waited forever for this day, and even though it’s still a bit cold here in South Central PA….there is no snow on the ground…finally! It’s been a long winter, but Spring is finally here!!!

My first article has been published on Mixedmediaart.net today! This is one of my favorite mixed media art techniques – Making Transparent Stamped Layers.

I love this technique!!! Making piles of stamped papers and transparent papers are great for collage and mixed media. Jeez…I could spend days making these papers! I use them in my art almost all the time!

There will be plenty of demos and tips on artistic journaling techniques during this six-week course. This is an excellent class for teens as well as adults and a great time for child and parent to spend creative-time together.

020 Go Ask Alice

020 Go Ask Alice

020 Go Ask Alice

The text in this collage came from an old book page with the title “The Opium Eater’s Dream” …which I found an interesting title for a late 1800’s book. The position of her face reminded me of Alice In Wonderland…she’s just hanging in mid-air with mystery in her eyes as if in a dream. So if you are wondering, “Go ask Alice, I think she’ll know…” Yes, I’m that old and from that era and I’ve always liked that song…go Jefferson Airplane! Here is a version on YouTube that I like (it seems so innocent for a song that was about taking drugs):

This collage is 5 x 7, mounted and matted with a cream colored mat and ready to drop into an 8.5 x 11 frame (frame not included).

022 Cheez Whiz

022 Cheez Whiz

022 Cheez Whiz

Who didn’t love Cheez Whiz as a kid??? My mom bought it for us just as pictured, in the glass jars that could reused for juice glasses after all that delicious processed cheese was gobbled up! That yellow golden goodness!!!

This collage is 5 x 7, mounted and matted with a tan colored mat and ready to drop into an 8.5 x 11 frame (frame not included).

 023 Scranton van Gogh

023 Scranton van Gogh

023 Scranton van Gogh

The horizon of Scranton, PA as a van Gogh masterpiece??? It seemed appropriate to me that this city in northern PA should benefit from one of the worlds great artists. I don’t know much about Scranton, but I did grow up near the coal regions in Danville, PA. My grandfather worked in the coal mines in Nanticoke, PA and drove a team of horses, hitched to a wagon, from Mt. Carmel to Nanticoke every day….about a 55 mile journey. I often imagine how tough that was for him. So here’s to a bit of artistic vision for northern PA, which reared some very hearty people in it’s time!

This collage is 5 x 7, mounted and matted with a tan colored mat and ready to drop into an 8.5 x 11 frame (frame not included).

Collaging into Fall

Seems fitting that these next two collages are aprapo for the season despite the fact that they were numbered in reverse order and number 020 is among the missing. Oh Well! It’ll turn up somewhere. It’s probably under a pile of collage papers on my messy worktable. There is a lot going on in my studio right now!

019 B is for Books by Elaine Brady Smith

019 B is For Books represents the beginning of the school year, even though it started weeks ago for our kids. When I was growing up school always started after Labor Day and it felt like Fall. We were always ready to hit the books…oh yea…grin!

This collage is 5 x 7, mounted and matted with a black colored mat and ready to drop into an 8.5 x 11 frame (frame not included).

You can purchase this collage for $15 plus $3 shipping (shipping is adjusted for multiple purchases) by clicking the Add To Cart button below or email me at elainebradysmith@comcast.net.

021 Collecting Shells by Elaine Brady Smith

021 Collecting Shells by Elaine Brady Smith

021 Collecting Shells represents the end of summer. Lazy days at the beach and fun on the boardwalk are over for another year. We now face that the days will get shorter and the air will become increasingly cooler as the days march on…well at least that’s true here in Pennsylvania.

This collage is 5 x 7, mounted and matted with a cream colored mat and ready to drop into an 8.5 x 11 frame (frame not included).

You can purchase this collage for $15 plus $3 shipping (shipping is adjusted for multiple purchases) by clicking the Add To Cart button below or email me at elainebradysmith@comcast.net.
