My next article, Encaustic Basics Part II – Preparing Substrates, Fusing, and adding Color was published today on Creating Mixed Media Art. If you missed Part I of this series you can read it here. I’m so excited to share this information with new encaustic artists!

This series will show you how to gather tools, equipment, products, and begin encaustic painting in an easy and economical way. There is a lot of information out there and it is sometimes difficult to filter out what is useful to the beginner encaustic artist.

I will be writing about my favorite techniques for encaustic and mixed media art throughout the next several months. In the mean time here is a list of articles that will appear on Creating Mixed Media Art for 2014. If you have questions about your own encaustic painting, don’t hesitate to contact me via email: elainebradysmith@comcast.net or through my Facebook page: Elaine Brady Smith Art.

The gallery is located on Rt 117 in the heart of Mount Gretna, right beside the miniature golf course. If you have never been to LaCigale, you are in for a treat. It is a darling shop full of wonderful things and beautiful table cloths made in France…yes, that LaCigale!!! There is a huge gallery full of awesome art by the resident artists. And you betcha…if I sell a piece of artwork…or I should say “when I sell a piece of artwork”, I will be buying a custom made LaCigale table cloth for my odd sized antique kitchen table. I have been wanting one for years!!!

I love Mount Gretna and it holds a special place in my heart. It’s where my husband and I had our first date. We took a motorcycle ride, went to the Jigger Shop for ice cream and then sat by the lake as the sun set. So cute right? I must have been smitten, because here we are almost 35 years later from that night and we’re still together!!!

So, come on out to the opening reception, look at some great art and have a beer with me! See you then!!!

Happy first day of Spring everyone!!!

Seems like we have waited forever for this day, and even though it’s still a bit cold here in South Central PA….there is no snow on the ground…finally! It’s been a long winter, but Spring is finally here!!!

My first article has been published on Mixedmediaart.net today! This is one of my favorite mixed media art techniques – Making Transparent Stamped Layers.

I love this technique!!! Making piles of stamped papers and transparent papers are great for collage and mixed media. Jeez…I could spend days making these papers! I use them in my art almost all the time!

Do you need a creative place to experiment and explore ideas with no pressure to produce a masterpiece? An art journal may be the perfect solution!

There will be plenty of demos and tips on artistic journaling techniques during this six-week course. This is an excellent class for teens as well as adults and a great time for child and parent to spend creative-time together.
